Welcome to Harpin Jonny

I am enjoying playing with four different combinations of bands - 'Harpin & Clark', 'The Groovehounds', The Owls' and 'The Unpaid Bills'.

I'm performing with several of the West Coasts hottest musicians including Bob O'Neill, Peter Clark, Jamie DeMaria, Tom Lawson and Joe Vallarie to name a few.

I'm also doing lots of studio and session work along with live performances.  The gallery offers many different pictures for your enjoyment and there are some live cuts for you to listen to as well as some interesting reviews and articles.

Harpin Jonny is a talented and versatile harmonica player based in Santa Cruz, California

He has been performing professionally since 1990.  

He has been the leader or member of several bands, including the Primadons, and the Larry Hosford Band.  

He has performed with members of the Doobie Brothers, and Snail, as well as played with Robert Earl Keen, Todd Snider, Paul Thorn, Bobby Black and the Devil Makes Three.

He has released two successful CDs over the time span and has been on another 20 plus CDs as a guest performer.  He is a sought after harmonica player for session and studio work.  His CDs have sold well in the U.S. as well as in Europe.

He has had several newspaper articles written about him and his work, and has performed on numerous television and radio stations.  

Jonny currently has four bands that he is leading in the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area:

    The Groovehounds

    The Owls

    Harpin and Clark

    Harpin Jonny and the Unpaid Bills.

These bands cover a wide genre of music including blues, folk, jazz, rock, country, and bluegrass.  He is a stellar player on both the diatonic and chromatic harmonica.

Jonny has opened shows for Norton Buffalo, Charlie Musselwhite, The Tubes, The Sons of Chaplain, Coco Montoya, John Broadway Tucker, to name a few,  and has played many festivals, including the Monterey Blues Festival three times, the Strawberry Festival several times, and many more.  

Jonny is known for his ability to enhance melodies and compliment the bands that he plays with.  He is also an accomplished singer and front man.

He has been teaching harmonica for over 20 yrs.
